Natural Resources Management

Natural Resources are the biggest assets of rural communities. Their livelihoods primarily depend on the use of natural resources like soil, water and trees. Sustainable management of these resources is critical to sustaining and improving the livelihoods of rural communities. Sustainable management of these resources is also critical from climate change point of view.

What we do in Natural Resources Management?
  • Participatory mapping of natural resources and its status in villages; participation of all sections including women is critical
  • Planning for management of natural resources primarily around land development, arresting soil erosion, regeneration of catchment areas of water bodies, plantation and forest conservation
  • Formation of community institutions to lead the process of planning, execution and management of natural resources in the villages.
  • Series of trainings and exposures are done to build the capacity of community around management of natural resources.
  • Participatory implementation of management plan of natural resources. Priority is given to local material while implementing activities on ground.
Our Activities
  • Field bunding for reducing soil erosion and water recharge
  • Treatment of gullies through boulder checks, gabion structures and other structures
  • Plantation on common land and farm boundaries
  • Farm ponds for water recharge.
  • Smaller water harvesting structure for recharge and irrigation purpose.
  • On farm water management
  • Trainings and exposure of community leaders
  • Management of river basin at larger level
  • Management of forests through community institutions
  • Improving soil quality for facilitating moisture conservation
Our Achievements

  • Over 52000 water harvesting structures
  • Over 11 million trees on 4700 hectares of land planted and protected
