Programme Specialist - Livestock

Location: Sendhwa, Madhya Pradesh

Education: B.V.Sc A.H. / M.V.Sc or B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, or related field

Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience in livestock development, dairy value chains, rural entrepreneurship, and livelihood enhancement projects, especially with women and youth

    Position Summary: The Programme Specialist – Livestock will be responsible for leading and providing technical guidance for the effective implementation of livestock-based livelihood, productivity enhancement, and animal health programmes in the assigned region.

     

    The role demands strong technical expertise in livestock management, improved breeding practices, fodder development, dairy and small ruminant management, and livestock value chains. The Specialist should have proven experience in field-level programme execution, capacity building, and coordination with multiple stakeholders including veterinary departments, donors, research institutions, and community-based organisations.

     

    The incumbent will also contribute to developing strategies, project proposals, monitoring systems, and documentation of field learnings to enhance programme quality and impact.

     

    Skills: 

    Strong technical knowledge of livestock management and animal husbandry practices.

  • Strong skills in field activity organisation, coordination, and team management.

  • Ability to adopt and promote modern livestock technologies, digital tools, and innovative practices.

  • Proficiency in MIS management, data analysis, and presentation.

  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.

  • Understanding of monitoring and evaluation tools and systems.

  • Strong project management capabilities.

Job Profile
  • Liaise with donors, veterinary departments, and government missions for programme coordination and support

  • Provide technical and managerial support to field teams implementing livestock projects

  • Facilitate training and capacity-building programmes for field staff, Pashu Sakhis, dairy groups, and partner organisations (GO-NGO)

  • Develop programme manuals, training modules, and assessment tools to strengthen programme effectiveness

  • Prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs), strategies, and frameworks for livestock-based livelihood interventions

  • Plan and implement sustainable livestock practices such as improved breeds, fodder management, deworming, vaccination, housing, and disease prevention

  • Strengthen livestock value chains, dairy market linkages, and enterprise development models for rural households

  • Document success stories, case studies, and technical notes for internal learning and donor reporting

  • Draft project proposals and contribute to strategic planning for livestock and rural livelihood programmes

  • Promote integration of techniques such as community-based breed improvement, ration balancing, AI services, and preventive healthcare models

  • Collaborate with veterinary colleges, KVKs, livestock universities, NGOs, and technical organisations to enhance programme outcomes

  • Ensure timely and accurate donor reporting in English with support from field and monitoring teams
